Icelanders in the Days of COVID-19

As I’ve heard many times in the last week, these are challenging times. New information is coming out daily and it is so easy to get swept up in it. We need to be smart and prudent about our activities. As such, the Icelandic National League of North America (INLNA) has made a decision to cancel the Annual Convention in Gimli, MB scheduled for April 23-25. The decision was not made lightly, but given the current environment, it is the right thing to do. The Interlake Planning Committee had a great program put together and deserve a wild round of applause for their efforts; it is not easy to plan such an event.

Here is information from the INLNA regarding travel and lodging:

“If you had made arrangements to attend:

• to cancel your reservation at the Lakeview Hotel please call toll free 1-877-355-3500; no penalty will be incurred

• if you booked a flight with Air Canada or WestJet, both airlines are offering cancellations or changes with little or no fees; the most current information is online

• your convention registration (and any extras such as the tour, extra banquet ticket, etc.) will be automatically refunded by the Convention Committee; there is no need to contact the committee but please allow 20 days for processing.”

Even strong, Viking blood is not immune to COVID-19, so please be careful and mindful of your interactions.
